The Thanduxolo Water Ngwenyas had the privilege of being visited by a water explorer representative in time for World Wetlands Month! Before the visit, 150 learners brought empty two-liter plastic bottles to school. The learners then learned about how the wetlands around them are natural water filters that remove sediment and harmful toxins from the water. The learners were then provided with various types of sand, screens and grass to create their own wetland water filters. They were all split up into teams and each team created their own filter from natural materials. It was a friendly but fierce competition! They were amazed at how clear their dirty water was after one pour through the filter. After they poured the dirty water through the filter several times, it was almost clear! Overall, teachers and learners benefitted from the lesson on wetlands and it inspired the learners to complete more water saving projects in the future. Thank you water explorers!
