Last term we converted one of our flower beds into an indigenous, water-wise garden. It is in an area that receives a lot of sun and required plants that can cope with hot, dry conditions. I chose a number of aloe species, some different grasses, and gazanias. They have had some time now to establish themselves and the garden is starting to take shape. Eventually, we are hoping to direct a pipe from one of the air conditioning units so that it will be completely self-sustaining.
Most people have the misconception that indigenous plants are boring. I couldn't disagree more and if you take a trip to your local nursery, you will be amazed by the variety out there.
